Family Devotion Day 11: Jesus gives you rest

Read

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Learn

Are you tired from too much homework, too many things to do and too many people to please?

Then come to Jesus as you study the Bible and pray. He will give you rest. This is not the type of short rest that comes from playing a computer game or watching cartoons. This is good rest that comes from knowing Jesus is with you – loving you and helping you no matter what your day is like.

Maybe you are working very hard in school, in your CCA, in tuition – that’s good! Put in your best effort but don’t depend on yourself. Depend on Jesus.

When you find real rest, you will have time and a heart to love others who are struggling.

Be a blessing to the people in your life. Be kind to the helper in your home, bring a drink to the construction worker in the hot sun, help the old auntie struggling with her trolley, and pray for your classmates.

Then they will see your beautiful heart that comes from knowing a beautiful Jesus, and they will want to follow Him.

/ Discuss
  • What makes you feel anxious or worried? How will you bring your worries to Jesus?
  • Do you know what a “yoke” is in Matthew 11:28-30? Ask an adult to explain this to you, or read more about it online.
  • How can you be a blessing to people around you, like your Ah Ma or Ah Kong, your helper, your classmates, or your teachers?
/ Pray
  • Pray that the Holy Spirit will remind you to always run to the heavenly Father when you are tired.
  • Pray that God will open your eyes to see people around you that you can help and encourage. Ask Him to show you how to bless them.
