Family Devotion Day 10: Who is your hero?

Read

Mark 8:36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?

Learn

If someone asked you: Who is your hero? Who would you name?

Is it because he or she is strong, beautiful, rich, popular, successful?

The world thinks of success in a different way from Jesus. Jesus defines a successful person as a person who did not “forfeit his soul”. What does that mean?

Your soul is the deepest part of you. It is more than your body; it is your spirit. Your soul is what makes you different from other living things created by God.

When someone “forfeits his soul”, he or she does not believe in God and is separated from God.

To Jesus, being successful is not having the best results in school, the most number of friends or the nicest house. It is having a soul that has a close relationship with the Holy Spirit.

God wants Singapore to have a close relationship with Him. He wants Singaporeans to know Him, to turn to Him and to love Him.

So, does your hero have a healthy soul connected to God? If not, please find a better hero.

/ Discuss
  • Would you describe your hero as being successful in the eyes of God?
  • How can you pray for Singapore to think of success the way Jesus thinks of success?
  • How can you keep your soul connected to God daily?
/ Pray
  • Ask God to help you to want to know Him and to have a soul that is healthy and tightly connected to Him.
  • Pray that Singaporeans will seek success in important things: Being close to God, knowing God and loving God.
  • Pray that Singaporeans will believe in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and experience the goodness of God.
