Family Devotion Day 23: Be careful what you say!

Read

Psalm 145:4-7 One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendour of your majesty — and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They tell of the power of your awesome works — and I will proclaim your great deeds. They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

Learn

Did you know that little children learn by copying what they see and hear? You may think nobody is watching you because you are young. But whatever you do or say will be seen and remembered by someone even younger than you. So be careful what you say!

It is every Christian’s job to share with others what we know about God. That’s right, even you. This is so that every generation will know and remember Him. Here are three important things to remember as you talk about God:

  1. Tell them about God’s character. He is powerful and good. Then others will see our respect and love for Him and love Him too.
  2. Tell them what God has done in your life. Let others know how He has protected you, helped you in difficult times and given you the things you need.
  3. Tell them about God’s goodness. He forgives us and gives us second, third, and fourth chances when we behave badly. When we come to Him, He will never turn us away. He even died for our sins so that we can live forever if we believe in Him.

The next generation, even younger than you, will have their worries, just as you sometimes do. But you can help them to experience God’s love and goodness by passing down what you know about God!

/ Discuss
  • Which of the three things about God do you like the most: His character, His acts or His goodness? Why?
  • Do you have a little brother or sister that you can set a good example for? What will you tell them about God?
/ Pray
  • Pray that God will help you and other young people continue to believe in God, even when you have difficulties. Ask for His help to bravely share His Gospel with many people.
  • Pray for the older people in your church to have a heart for the young people, so that together, old and young, we can help each other be strong in the Lord.
  • Pray that you and the young people your age will love and respect God so that you will believe His Word and follow it.
