1 Samuel 22-26<\/cite><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

In 1 Samuel 22-26, we find David not yet on the throne, but in the wilderness. He is rejected, hunted, misunderstood. Yet, something powerful is happening despite his circumstances.<\/p>\n

1 Samuel 22:2 tells us: \u201cEveryone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him; and he became captain over them.<\/em>\u201d (NASB)<\/p>\n

David didn\u2019t start with ideal followers. He started with broken, struggling people. But in the wilderness, he didn\u2019t just lead them \u2013 he formed them. These men would later become David\u2019s mighty men.<\/p>\n

Disciple-making often begins in unlikely places with unlikely people.<\/p>\n

For Singapore to turn Godward, we must shift our mindset. We are not just building churches, we are raising and forming disciples. And disciples don\u2019t always come polished. They are often in distress, searching and stuck in their lives.<\/p>\n

David showed us three key principles:<\/p>\n

1. Disciple-making happens in the wilderness<\/span><\/h2>\n

David didn\u2019t wait for a palace to start building people. He did so in caves, deserts and moments of crisis.<\/p>\n

In Singapore, it\u2019s easy to rely on structure, programmes and stability. But God often forms deep disciples in messy, real-life situations: In the marketplace, in homes, in struggles, and even in our failures.<\/p>\n

Who are the \u201cdistressed\u201d people around you that God is calling you to walk with?<\/p>\n

2. Disciple-making requires modelling God\u2019s heart<\/span><\/h2>\n

Twice over, David had the chance to kill Saul, in 1 Samuel 24 and 26. And twice, he refused.<\/p>\n

In 1 Samuel 24:6, David said: \u201cFar be it from me\u2026 that I should do this thing to my Lord, the LORD\u2019s anointed.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

David\u2019s men urged him to take revenge, but David chose honour, restraint and trust in God.<\/p>\n

Who are the \u201cdistressed\u201d people around you that God is calling you to walk with?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Here\u2019s the key: David wasn\u2019t just teaching with words, he was shaping his men by example.<\/p>\n

If we want Singapore to turn Godward, we need disciples who reflect God\u2019s character: integrity over ambition, mercy over revenge, trust over control.<\/p>\n

People don\u2019t just need instruction \u2013 they need models of godliness.<\/p>\n

Pray for the people who are your models \u2013 that they will keep holy lives.<\/p>\n

3. Disciple-making multiplies transformation<\/span><\/h2>\n

Those who gathered to David came broken, but they didn\u2019t stay that way. Over time, they were transformed into leaders and warriors.<\/p>\n

This is the heart of disciple-making \u2013 transformation that multiplies. Imagine if every believer in Singapore intentionally sought out and discipled just one or two people \u2013 not perfectly, but faithfully.<\/p>\n

What if Singapore\u2019s \u201cwilderness moments\u201d of pressure, busyness and uncertainty are actually God\u2019s opportunity to raise disciples?<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A nation doesn\u2019t turn Godward through events alone, but through lives changed, then changing others.<\/p>\n

We pray and look for someone to disciple us. But would you pray and look for someone to disciple as well?<\/p>\n

David\u2019s wilderness became a training ground for a generation. What if Singapore\u2019s \u201cwilderness moments\u201d of pressure, busyness and uncertainty are actually God\u2019s opportunity to raise disciples?<\/p>\n

Who has God placed in your life right now?<\/p>\n

Not to fix, but to walk with.<\/p>\n

Not to impress, but to form.<\/p>\n

Not just to gather, but to disciple.<\/p>\n

Let us pray together.<\/p>\n

Lord, turn our hearts toward disciple-making.<\/em><\/p>\n

Help us see people the way You do \u2013 not as problems, but as potential. Raise in Singapore a generation of disciples who reflect Your heart, who walk in integrity, and who multiply Your life in others.<\/em><\/p>\n

Use us, even in our wilderness, to turn this nation Godward.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Jesus\u2019 name, Amen.<\/em><\/p>\n
